I'm On Drugs...For Weight Loss

By Henry John

Do you remember all those obese people on the good spaceship Axiom in the movie WALL . E? Is that what we are going to look like in the future? Wow, that's a scary thought, but even more scary when the National Institute of Health reports that 65% of Americans are overweight or obese! Even more depressing when we learn that well over 90% of people who go on a diet never achieve permanent weight loss. "Houston...we have a problem!"

Everywhere people are trying to find an answer to one of the nation's most pressing problems, and so far there is not much on the horizon - or is there?

Diets have somehow endorsed people's consciences. They feel that at least they are doing something even although they know that any success they achieve is going to be short lived. The effect of this 'serial dieting' is not good. Serial dieting causes depression and physical weakness and should be avoided at all costs.

What about drugs? There is no doubt that some acute cases of obesity require drug therapy. There is no other answer because the problem has become a case of life and death. For the majority of obese or overweight people, this is not an option and it never should be!

To be clear - prescription drugs are meant for chronic cases of obesity and for some people with diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. Doctors are normally - or should be - reluctant to prescribe drugs unless it is absolutely necessary.

All drugs have side-effects and weight loss drugs are no exception. For those that have to take them, they can be an added burden - not to be recommended.

It is depressing to see so many diet solutions offering 'fast weight loss'. The problem with fast weight loss is that it is accompanied not long afterwards by fast weight gain. There will never be any lasting result without commitment to personal change - and this takes real effort.

Making personal change is the only real way to achieve permanent weight loss. It takes commitment and the will to want to live a slimmer, happier, healthier life. By understanding your behaviors and being aware of the causes of your condition you can make successful change. You can learn new habits - slim habits, which will enable you to achieve permanent weight loss. No pills! - 15266
