In order to have an effective improvement project, the leaders, or Black Belts are depended on for effectiveness in leadership. This will most likely be the Black Belts because they should be the ones with the best knowledge of Six Sigma techniques, as well as being effective at mobilizing all parties required to bring about these improvements. First, they must be able to mobilize themselves.
All Black Belts are not naturally good at mobilizing teams and stakeholders. But, their skill can be developed, and this process starts with self mobilization. By seeing into their team members heads, they can relate to their points of view, and get a better understanding. Once they can mobilize themselves, they can then learn to mobilize others.
A Black Belt has a very important task to mobilize the team members and to do so has to get into the shoes of the members. The first thing the team members would always wish to know is "what is in it for me". If it seems on the face of the matter that there is not much in it, then the Black Belts should get the participation of all by asking them, 'as to what they expect?' The Black Belt can base his meetings accordingly.
Another group that will need mobilizing is the stakeholders. This group is made up of top management, colleagues and clients. It is important to keep them informed of the status of the projects. This will give the stakeholders more of a push in accepting projects.
The project leader or the Black Belts can mobilize others very well, if they are able to mobilize themselves first and understand the needs of others. By constant review and analysis of the members, the Black Belts can ensure that everyone is geared up towards the success of the project. - 15266
