Why Not Build Residential Solar Panels?

By Eric Q. Duncan

Most people today are trying to save money any way they can think of. Energy is one of the things people are trying to limit their use of to lower their bills. What most do not realize is they can drastically cut the cost of the home energy they use and at the same time live greener by using home solar panels.

Many people are under the misconception that green energy is expensive and requires a large investment. This is untrue. It is possible to build solar power panels at your own home for a fraction of the cost of solar panels purchased from a company and professionally installed at your home.

You can keep the price of the power you consume to a minimum with homemade solar panels. If you also hook your panels up to the power grid, the company will pay you for any excess power you produce and do not use. This means you could receive a check instead of the monthly bill from your power provider.

The solar panels depend on sunshine to produce power to your home. What will you do at night or on rainy days? Here are three options for you to think about.

Storage batteries will store your excess power for later use. You must wire your solar panels to the batteries and then when the sun is not shining you will be able to use the power that is stored in the batteries. In this case, you can disconnect your service from the power company if you wish.

Living off the grid means you are living without depending on an outside provider for power. You are creating all you need on your own. Everything is still running, as it was when you were connected, the only difference is you are using your own resources to do it instead of paying a company to do it for you.

You can use wind power to take over the job when the sun is unavailable for a power source. A system powered by a windmill is easy to build at home in your spare time with a few simple tools and simple instructions. You will still have a problem for instance on a still dark night.

You may want to keep your electric turned on or set up your battery backup for the added security of knowing you will still have power when the solar panels and windmill cannot provide it due to the weather. These two types of green renewable energy will provide for most of your needs without having to use back-up power.

The third method is to simply be hooked to the grid. If you ever are in a situation where the sun is not shining you home simply draws power from the grid. Usually it only costs you a few dollars per bill and often times due to the power the grid has used from your solar panel you break even.

It is time to do all you can to cut the cost of living and having your own residential solar panels is a good way to do it. The environment needs help and this green alternative energy source will not harm the earth or atmosphere in any way. Anyone can make and install their own solar panels with the right guidance. - 15266
