Gardening tips to ensure you get the best results

By Percy J Mower

There is a wide range of information available on the internet, gardening clubs, books, magazines and the local nursery which could provide you with valuable guidance on your first attempt at gardening. What type of fertilizers should you use? What about mulch and the kind of soil that the plot has? Firstly, what types of tools including the kind of tiller and watering systems which are required to get you started.

It helps you save time by making a plan of what you intened to do in your garden To help you get going, brainstorm with a friend with the plan in front of you.

The way you have prepared your soil can decide whether you succeed in your gardening efforts. Using organic fertilizers for vegetables and herbs is a must if you wish to retain the natural flavor of the food. Wooden chip mulch or any good compost is better than ordinary fertilizer.

Though fresh home brew compost is a rich source of nutrients, it may not be as realistic as one imagines, for the herbal and vegetable garden. Though mulch is a good substitute to home compost, you have to be sure that they are either pine or redwood, as it breaks faster since they are softer woods. Mulch, compost or fertilizer, ensure that they are all mixed well.

when you have the soil all prepared it is very smart to lay out the plants on top of the soil before planting them to get a good look at how it's going to turn out just in case you need to make any last minute changes. I believe that the best option is to plant together all plants which have same individualities. Plants with larger spread should be planted together. Plant the taller plants at the back with shorter ones just in front.

You must water your garden regularly. If your garden is very big, then watering a garden can be very hard work. An automatic watering system is best as you don't have to be there to operate it. Ranging from a big sprinkler system to a timer on a hose sprinkler, these automatic systems can provide the solution. Gardening can be hard work at first but you will enjoy the benefits it brings - 15266
